Michael Larry Simpson began his Panel Series in 2007. This work begins with individual plywood panels
that Simpson colors, draws, stains and burnishes to express his impressions of the people, environs and
design that he encounters daily. Those panels are then re-considered and constructed in multiples to
create new visual narratives expressing his visions of our world.
Simpson studied Art History, Studio Art and Economics at the College of William and Mary, and
continued his art studies at the School of Visual Arts and the Art Student's League in New York City.
Simpson has worked as a Fine Fragrance Executive and Artist in New York City, Amsterdam and London
and now resides in the Hudson Valley where he paints and manages OK Fine Fragrances, an indie brand
he co-founded in 2019. He is represented by D’Arcy Simpson Art Works in Hudson, NY and his work
resides in private collections across the US and Europe.

Artist Statement

Faces I have not seen
Faces I have not seen
Friends I have not made
Places I have not been
Or ever wanted to go
Hate I have not endured
Love I have not shared
Or ever thought to show
Problems I have not understood
Lessons I have not learned
Advantages gained that I never had to earn
Apologies I have not given for
Actions I have never taken
Art I have not made for far too long
